У меня всегда иксы без hald/dbus, и x.org-7.4 тоже. Ничего сложного в этом нет - просто не запускаю демонов, как раньше в xorg.conf прописаны клавиатура/мышь плюс Option "AllowEmptyInput" "off" в ServerLayout.
